  • Hot Dogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

  • I don't do a lot of normal PC gaming anymore. Not to say I don't play games - I have a Switch that gets a fair amount of use and I did just start Fallout 4 up again on my PC.

However, I do play a ton of VR games on my desktop. I still only have my Lenovo Explorer, which is a Windows Mixed Reality headset - and I still stand that it's a damn good VR headset. I have a buddy with a Vive Pro, a regular Vive, an Oculus Rift, and all types WMR headsets, and I've used most of them - I still think Windows Mixed Reality is a great virtual reality option, especially when they can often be found for a fraction of the cost.

But this post isn't about VR headsets again. It's about Hot Dogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (H3VR), which is probably my most played VR title.

    About H3VR

H3VR is, as described on its Steam page, "a lazy Sunday trip over to  your friends house… if your friend was a retired gun-nut with a  warehouse full of toys, a few irritating robot pets, and a bizarre  obsession with meat."

So, as you might expect (or maybe not), there are a lot of guns, and various hot dog shaped targets to shoot - including, but not limited to anthropomorphic hot dogs with guns.

My favorite mode to play is Take and Hold, although there are various standard gun ranges that are fun (including the Hickok45 range!). Take and Hold lets you open gun crates for randomized guns, and you have to use the guns you get to hold a point while some of the anthropomorphic hot dogs with guns come and attack you. It sounds ridiculous, but it's a lot of fun. Check out this video I recorded.

This is actually from the newer Take and Hold: Containment version in alpha, which is a larger, more maze-like map with more enemy types. It's very clearly an alpha version, but I think even in its current state, it's vastly improved over the original.

Anyway, I just wanted to share some gameplay footage and a few good words about my favorite VR title. Every other VR title with guns makes me just want to play this more. If you like guns at all, and virtual reality, definitely pick up Hot Dogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. The dev team is super active and the game has been rapidly improving.
